[2.5 Minute Read or Listen Below] What does this quote say to you? It tells me in our quest for growth, the best time to act is now. So, what holds us back as we try to improve ourselves? Usually, fear and mistaken beliefs.
As a Productivity and Time Optimization Coach, I help female small business owners struggling with overwhelm be more productive and reclaim their time, allowing them to enjoy life without guilt and without sacrificing the needs of their business. When people hear what I do, their first response is usually, 'You couldn't possibly help me. I'm too disorganized.'
The most frequent runner-up responses include:
These mistaken beliefs can hold you back from having the life you want. Anyone who has the motivation and is willing and capable of engaging in the process can improve. Your age, your profession, and your past behavior are all irrelevant. It’s all about what you are willing to do now. Regardless of who we are and what we do, we all experience overwhelming feelings from time to time. Those who naturally have the skills to minimize it or have been taught and consistently practice these skills can successfully keep those feelings to a minimum. The last thing you need to do as you embark on any productivity, decluttering, or organization process is to buy more stuff and bring more random items into your space! It can create more problems than it solves. The decision of what to keep or discard is entirely up to you. I suggest seeking document retention guidance from your accountant and legal advisor. This guidance can help you feel more comfortable discarding items, but the final decision is always yours. Nobody's office looks perfect all the time. There will be items pulled out when you are actively working on something. The key is, do those items have a place to go when it's time to put them away? And, will you be able to find them again? The process takes as long as it takes, depending on the time you devote to it. You will require time to learn and time to put your new knowledge into practice. Consistent actions taken in just a few minutes a day can make a big difference. Passing judgment on you or your situation is the last thing on my mind. My goal is to help you reach your desired outcome. The current state of your office doesn't matter. And do not feel pressured to clean it up before we start working together. Improving productivity does not necessarily require increasing your use of technology. It often results from using less. I don't want you to be like me. I want you to be the best YOU possible. My job as your coach is to help you get there. Full disclosure. The process will not always be comfortable. I will ask difficult questions that lead to self-reflection. Through these questions, the goal is for you to learn about yourself and what you want or don't want. The questions may be about topics you've been avoiding. But I will walk that path of discovery with you. You don't have to do it alone. Increasing your productivity can be life-changing. Don't let embarrassment or mistaken beliefs stand in your way. Start making progress now, whether you work with me or any other productivity consultant. Don't look back years from now wishing you had.
